I was at my great niece's 1st birthday party recently which was held in an old home that used to serve as a convent. The building was recently renovated into a modern building and one of the fascinating updates is a stairway that leads nowhere! This stairway made me reflect on how this is such an apt metaphor for the walls that we run into in our everyday lives. For many of us, we have an idea of where we'd like to go with our lives and we have an idea about the path that we need to take to get there, yet sometimes as we're climbing up that path we run into obstacles that threaten to stop us—walls that keep the faint of heart and the less dedicated from making it further up that path. The important thing to remember, though, is that obstacles are only a problem when we take our eyes off the prize. When we choose to not allow these obstacle to have authority over us and instead stay focused on our destination, all the bumps in the road and walls that we bump into along the way no longer have power over us, because we know that there's always more than one way to get to the other side, and we only have to look for it instead of getting disheartened, frustrated, and giving up.
