"We need discernment in what we see and what we hear and what we believe." — Charles R. Swindoll I heard a quote recently by the late Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel, a French fashion designer, businesswoman, and founder of the Chanel brand. She's quoted as saying:
“Don’t spend time beating on a wall hoping to transform it into a door.” It's safe to say that Ms Chanel had the gift of discernment to know when a wall was a wall, and when a door was a door. Over her lifetime the Chanel brand's influence went well beyond fashion, and Time Magazine even listed her as one of the top 100 most influential people of the 20th century. As a "Magic Word," Discernment is about the ability to judge well—to make sharp judgments about what is a worthwhile endeavor, and what is not. Whatever you're working on, or are considering to work on, take some time today to seek discernment. Reflection Are you beating on a door or a wall? |
