"There's always gonna be another mountain, I'm always gonna wanna make it move. Always gonna be an uphill battle, sometimes I'm gonna have to lose. Ain’t about how fast I get there; ain’t about what's waiting on the other side. It's the climb!" — Jessica Leigh Alexander
Four years ago my father lost his battle with cancer. The chemotherapy was just too much for him. Today there's extensive research being done showing positive signs that chemotherapy is no longer the standard treatment. This new method is called immunotherapy and it uses the patient's own immune system to battle the disease. There's still much research to be done, but the good news is that it's been working!
This year I've joined forces with Climb For Hope, a nonprofit that raises money to support immunotherapy research. From May 16-20 I'll be on a strenuous 50 mile hike of the Grand Canyon! It will be a challenge, but the way I see it is that of my father could battle cancer for two months then I can handle a few days in a canyon.
