One of the things I most love about mountain climbing is it mirrors the twists, turns, and long winding trails of life—reminding us that it will always seem so much easier to give up rather than to go up. But, when we persevere, the reward is a beautiful new perspective of the world that can be truly life-changing.
What I'm continuing to discover is that a key component to resilience is today's Magic Word: Authenticity. Meaning, we become armed to face life's challenges when we choose to engage in activities that are true to who we are because they speak to our most personal experiences.
How do authentic activities help make us more resilient? Here's a simple example: Mountain climbing is an authentic activity for me because it reflects all the times when I wanted to give up when the going got tough. By consciously engaging in this activity—and sticking with it even when it gets uncomfortable—it serves as an encouraging reminder to stay the course, not only during a climb, but during times when it matters most when everyday challenges arise.
