“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself, just as I am, then I can change.” — Carl Rogers

The word acceptance is derived from words meaning agree, admit, and receive, and today it generally refers to consenting and receiving something that is offered.
When we’re unable to accept the reality of our circumstances, we lose the ability to express our Free Will—because stubbornly ignoring the reality of our circumstances instigates a willful blindness, where we lose access to the truth and put up obstacles that prevent informed decision making.
And yet, when we are able to accept the reality of our circumstances, we become empowered with truth and understanding, a sure foundation from which to initiate and manage positive change, experience progress, and promote true and lasting growth. As the psychologist Carl Rogers reminds us: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself, just as I am, then I can change.”
The question becomes, how are you accepting the reality of your circumstances, and how can use this as a platform for your growth and development?
