Home Grown Tomatoes
By Guy Clark VERSE 1 Ain't [C] nothin' in the world that I like better than [F] bacon and lettuce and homegrown tomaduhs. [G7] Up in the mornin' out in the garden, [C] get you a ripe one [G] don't get a hard ‘un Ya [C] plant 'em in the spring, ya eat 'em in the summer; all [F] winter without 'em's a culinary bummer. I for[G7]get all about my sweatin' and diggin' every [C] time I’m out there [G7] pick me a big ‘un. CHORUS [C] Homegrown tomaduhs, homegrown tomaduhs—[F] wha would life be without homegrown tomaduhs? [G7] Only two things that money can't buy and [C] that's true love and [G7] homegrown tomaduhs. VERSE 2 Well you can [C] go out to eat and that's for sure, but there’s [F] nothin' that a homegrown tomaduh won't cure. [G7] Put 'em in a salad, put 'em in a stew—you can [C] make your very own tomato juice. You [C] eat 'em with eggs, eat 'em with gravy; [F] eat 'em with beans—pinto or navy. [G7] Put 'em on the side, or put 'em in the middle; put a [C] homegrown tomaduh on a hotcake griddle. CHORUS VERSE 3 If [C] I was to change this life I lead, well, [F] you could call me Johnny tomato seed; cause [G7] I know what this country needs is [C] is homegrown tomatoes in every yard ya see! [C] When I die don't bury me [F] in a box in a cold dark cemetery; [G7] out in the garden would be much better—[C] I could be pushin' up [G7] homegrown tomaduhs. CHORUS
