"The purpose of human life is to serve, and to show compassion and the will to help others." — Albert Schweitzer
As children we’re often told what we can’t do: “You can’t do this, you can’t do that; sit down and shut up!”
But with magic even the impossible is possible. That’s how I knew, even from a young age, that I wanted to be a magician. And we all have our own dreams. Maybe it’s something that we want to do, somewhere we want to go, something that we want to have, or maybe it’s something that we want to be. Maybe it’s a skill that we really want to have, or maybe it’s a talent that we already have but that we want to use in a purposeful and meaningful way.
To understand this Magic Word Purpose it’s important to understand a common mistake many people make when defining their purpose, and maybe you’ve made the same mistake; I know I have. It’s when we confuse who we are with what we do. As it’s been said:
“We are human beings, not human doings.”
This suggests that we actually have two purposes: an inner purpose, which concerns “being;” and an outer purpose, which concerns “doing.” When we consider our inner purpose we ask questions like:
It’s by asking these qualifying questions that we gain insight into our outer purpose.
When we recognize that life is not just about what we do, but also about who we are, it is then that we can gain a clear vision for our life and always have the tools necessary to know the correct course of action.
What’s your inner purpose? And how can you reflect that purpose in all your outer doings?
